On this 30th anniversary of John Lennon’s death, Rolling Stone magazine publishes an interview that was done just 3 days before he was shot.
“…illusions they’ve (the media) created about artists. It’s like idol worship. They only like people when they’re on their way up. I cannot be on the way up again. What they want is dead heroes, like Sid Vicious and James Dean. I’m not interested in being a dead hero. So forget ‘em.”
Why did they wait 30 years to release this? Apparently, the interviewer did a 9 hour audio interview, only published clips of it the next month, then ignored the tapes for 30 years. Now you can hear the tapes for free. Not sure if they have the entire 9 hours or not.
